Guatemala is located in Central America bordering Mexico, Belize and Honduras. It’s has a total population of 14.32 million people (US State Dept 2009). In August, 2008, FWM established new partnerships with several indigenous women’s cooperatives in Guatemala with the goal of helping to create sustainable income through the development of new products, fair wages, and expansion of markets. Our goal is also to help promote self development within Guatemala.

- 70% of rural populations lives in poverty
- 4th highest rate of malnutrition in the world, currently 49% under age 5
- Approximately 40% of the population is illiterate, and 60% of these are women.
